Dr Charis Voutsina’s blog on the ‘Numbers in Everyday Life’ programme is live!
Published by the Early Childhood Mathematics Group (https://earlymaths.org/), it highlights their work supporting families to explore written numerals with young children in everyday routines, and to connect these everyday number experiences with children’s learning about numerals in preschool or school.
The ‘Numbers in Everyday Life’ family‑based programme has been supported by Research England’s Participatory Research Fund, building on evidence from our earlier Leverhulme Trust-funded research into children’s understanding of the cultural meanings and social uses of numerals.
Many thanks to the Early Childhood Mathematics Group for their sustained support of this work; to ECMG members and blog co-authors Kathryn Nichols (Houghton Community Nursery School) and Sharon Palfreyman (Corrie Primary & Nursery School); and to all brilliant Early Years collaborators from across the UK and Jamaica.
