The project focused on the co-design, trial, and co-evaluation of the Written Numbers in Everyday Life resources, which include a focused programme of evidence-based pedagogical activities that aim to:

a) Develop young children’s understanding of the multiple meanings and social uses of written numbers in everyday life
b) Foster their curiosity and knowledge about numbers outside the classroom
c) Enable educators and families to make meaningful connections between children’s experiences with numbers in everyday contexts, and their learning about numbers at preschool or school

In Phase 1, this participatory research project involved a research collaboration between University of Southampton researchers specialising in early mathematics learning, Early Years practitioners, Reception class teachers and families from 6 local educational settings.

Funder: UKRI Research England, Participatory Research Fund.
