Our MSHE colleague Dr Rosalyn Hyde is pleased to announce the publication of her new book ‘Myths and Legends of Mastery in the Mathematics Curriculum’. Co-edited with Pinky Jain and written by members of the Association of Mathematics Education Teachers, the book critiques mastery approaches to teaching mathematics. The book is intended for those beginning as primary and secondary teachers of mathematics and provides research-informed perspectives on a range of issues relevant to those early on in their teaching career and those who mentor them. The authors intend the book to help teachers to engage in debates around current developments in mathematics teaching and that the case studies included provide insights into how to develop practice that supports a meaningful conceptual approach for learners.
